Over the next few years, crews from the Newville Water and Sewer Authority will be inspecting the water shutoff valves to see if the pipe connections contain lead. Both Federal and State law requires all water utilities to identify lead pipes or connections, both owned by the system and the property owner. In some instances, we will ask your permission to inspect the water pipe in your basement to see if there are lead issues with your pipes. Currently, all that the authority has to do is identify and report our findings. If you pipes have lead fixtures, we will provide you information on how.
